Leaving Architecture, Finding Alignment + Diving Deeper into Sustainability w/ Geoff Von Zastrow

If you feel like architecture barely scratches the surface of sustainability & you want to know more, our guest today did too!

-

So excited to introduce you to our friend Geoff Von Zastrow in today’s chat!

-

Geoffrey, a product of Columbia University, the Pratt Institute, and the University of Idaho, has spent his professional career working on the nexus between physical climate change, economics, international development, public policy, and innovation, with a side of design. Geoffrey is currently the Assistant Director of an innovation network and accelerator at the University of California focused on identifying, and scaling science and technology breakthroughs that drive a more sustainable future for our health and our planet. Additionally, Geoffrey is the Environment Director at BABS PAC, a political organization focussed on supporting campaigns, candidates, and causes that protect the environment, advocate for worker’s rights, improve local economies, and support public education in New Jersey at the local, county, and state-level – one community at a time. In his free time, Geoffrey combines his passion for climate change, the environment, and sustainability by writing and speaking about politics and current affairs.

Geoffrey is also an avid runner and photographer.  – https://www.vonphotos.com/

Here is a sneak peak of what went down in today’s chat:

➕ Why he left architecture & how it’s informed his new career

➕ Diving deeper into climate change & water conservation

➕ Why finding alignment is the best thing to do

-

This podcast started to showcase a variety of design conversations like these that you might only get to have with friends at happy hour. It is so cool that we get to connect on such an intimate platform like podcasting and I am so grateful for that!

-

When society and studio tells you one thing, but your gut is telling you another. Listen to your gut. Use Geoff as proof that it is possible to shift your focus away from architecture if that is something that feels more aligned with you!

-

Tag a studio friend below who also geeks out about sustainability as much as Geoff & I!
